Thirty-five minutes sounds like a modest number until you compare it to the alternative.
A villa in Phuket's own southern beach towns — Kata, Karon, increasingly even parts of the west coast — can mean a forty-five-minute to hour-long crawl from the airport in high season, once traffic through Phuket Town and the island's congested main roads is accounted for. Natai, despite sitting across the provincial border in Phang Nga, is often faster to reach than destinations that are technically closer on a map.
That's the advantage most buyers don't think to ask about until they've already sat in the traffic once: distance and travel time are not the same thing on an island this developed.
Phuket International Airport itself is in the middle of a real, committed expansion — a roughly ฿10 billion second phase, lifting passenger capacity from around 12.5 million toward 18 million a year, part of a longer-term plan that industry observers expect could push capacity considerably higher by the early 2030s. 2026 has already brought new long-haul routes directly from Europe, with carriers including Virgin Atlantic, Air France, and Norse Atlantic launching nonstop service from London, Paris, and Stockholm. None of that capacity is being built for Natai specifically — but Natai benefits from every bit of it, without needing to absorb the crowding that usually comes with it.
The airport keeps getting easier to reach from more of the world. The beach thirty-five minutes north of it has, so far, stayed exactly as quiet as it was before any of that started.
